The Old Globe works with committed volunteers who visit dozens of schools five times throughout the spring semester and read aloud to over 1,500 children countywide.
These Globe Readers read age and curriculum appropriate stories to their assigned classrooms and lead classes in Creative Dramatics and Reader's Theatre activities. A book donation is also made to each participating school’s library.
The San Diego community can assist in this literacy initiative by donating new children’s books to be presented to the participating school libraries, and by volunteering to be trained as Globe Readers for the coming school year. Proficient readers in different languages are especially needed.
